Veterans Day Movies to Watch on Netflix

This year, Veterans Day falls on Saturday, November 11 in the US. Since the holiday falls on a weekend, the federal holiday will be observed today, Friday, November 10.

Veterans Day honors those who have served in the US Armed Forces. Those of you looking for way to celebrate in the comfort of your home are in luck. We’ve got the top best Veterans Day films to check out on Netflix below:

The Longest Day (1962)


The Longest Day is a 1961 war film based on D-Day. It features an impressive ensemble cast that includes John Wayne, Kenneth More, Richard Todd, Robert Mitchum, Richard Burton, Steve Forrest, Sean Connery, Henry Fonda, Red Buttons, Peter Lawford, Eddie Albert, Jeffrey Hunter, Stuart Whitman, Tom Tryon, and Rod Steiger, among others. The movie won two Oscars and was nominated for three others.

Five Came Back (Miniseries)


The miniseries Five Came Back was executively produced by Steven Spielberg and Scott Rudin and narrated by Meryl Streep. It is a three-part documentary series that, in the words of The Atlantic, “celebrates and analyzes the efforts of major Hollywood directors who depicted World War II.”

War Machine (2017)


Brad Pitt stars in this Netflix original about a successful four-star General chosen to command NATO forces in Afghanistan. The movie was adapted from the book, “The Operators: The Wild and Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan.”

Sand Castle (2017)


Sand Castle is a war film directed by Fernando Coimbra and Chris Roessner. The film follows Matt Ocre, a young man in the US Army, who must restore water to a village in Iraq. It’s based on the true events of the film’s writer, Chris Roessner, and was released on Netflix in April.

The Siege of Jadotville


The Siege of Jadotville is a 2016 historical drama war film based on the Declan Powers book, “The Siege at Jadotville: The Irish Army’s Forgotten Battle” and chronicles the experience of an Irish army unit’s role in a UN peacekeeping mission in the Congo in 1961.

Beasts of No Nation


Beasts of No Nation is a war-drama film written, co-produced, and directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, who tells the story of a young boy who becomes a child soldier as his country undergoes a horrific war. The movie was critically acclaimed, and won a slew of awards, including the Independent Spirit Award for Best Male Lead, the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role, the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Independent Motion Picture, and the NME Award for Best Film, among others.
