A Third Person View Of The Real World

Avatar Machine

Remember that wacky idea of zooming down the street in a modified OutRun machine, where instead of looking at the road ahead you’re looking at a monitor that reinterprets the environment as video game graphics? Well here’s something similar but even wackier, if that can be believed…

… I’ll just let the creator explain for himself this time:

“Avatar Machine is a system which replicates the aesthetics and visuals of third person gaming, allowing the user to view themselves as a virtual character in real space via a head mounted interface. The system potentially allows for a diminished sense of social responsibility, and could lead the user to demonstrate behaviors normally reserved for the gaming environment.”

Gotcha. I must admit, the whole concept is actually pretty neat and totally trippy. But that outfit is so art school that it’s not even funny. Via Today and Tomorrow.
