Nvidia announced “Project Shield,” a new handheld gaming device that runs off Android. The device will sport a clamshell design, similar to the Nintendo 3DS, but will only have one screen. Battery life will last up to 5-10 hrs of gameplay, or 24 hrs of HD video playback. Project Shield will be powered by Nvidia’s Tegra 4 chip and UV4 engine. Tegra 4 has six times the processing power as Tegra 3.

Nvidia is the most recognizable name in graphics processing units, but can the new Project Shield compete with the Nintendo 3DS or the Sony Vita?
