Shin Kohime Musou: Otome Taisen Sangokushi Engi

This all-female fighter features a storyline that’s set around the Three Kingdoms era that was one prominent in China. The major male characters of that era have all been transformed into warring females. The combat look flashy and there’s a focus on weapons-focused skirmishes. Looks pretty import worthy to us.
Sakigake!! Otoko Juku: Nihonyo Korega Otoko Dearu

Only the most ardent Shonen Jump manga followers will find any of the fighters in this game familiar. Akira Miyashita crafted this manga series and it’s massive characters and brutal combat are transitioning over to the PS3. The wide open arenas and environmental traps makes this game look even more visceral than some of the other fighters on this list.

The initial installment in the Persona fighting game series was a stylish, zany fighter that we couldn’t get enough of. The developers have noted the key character requests and balance changes that the game’s community requested and have thrown them into the upcoming Persona 4: The Ultimax Ultra Suplex Hold. This update comes with new fighters, Shadow-based spinoff characters, new stages and the implementation of the new tactical “S Hold System.”

Guilty Gear’s unique brand of awesomely named fighters (SOL BADGUY!) and a thrashing metal soundtrack are making an HD comeback this fall. This wonderfully looking 2D fighter is hitting the PS3 and PS4 with new mechanics such as character close-up’s during battle. Everything looks a lot more explosive in this entry and it looks like the oddities on this game’s roster will get the chance to shine once again.
Digimon All-Star Rumble

In 2014, the Digimon are still alive and kicking. Bandai Namco has chosen to go the Super Smash Bros. route with this all-star fighting game. A host of Digimon from the series extensive past and current history will do battle with each other in 4-player brawls. With all these characters comes 10 arenas, an all new story mode and some easy-to-understand fighting game controls.
