WATCH: ‘Injustice 2’ Announce & Gameplay Trailers (New Armor, Gear System & Supergirl Unveiled)

Update: the official gameplay trailers are here!

After waiting all week to see if Injustice 2 was actually a thing, we’ve finally gotten confirmation that it really is.

Today (Wednesday, June 8), NetherRealm Studios and DC Comics dropped the announce trailer for their next collaboration. In it, we see a whole bunch of the game’s past roster beating each other into the ground. Superman, Batman, The Flash and Aquaman do battle in a darkened area while an unknown narrator speaks. Two things will stand out to you as you watch this trailer over and over: the armored suit layouts for each character and the addition of a new heroine in the form of Supergirl.

Here’s hoping a few more DC favorites of ours makes the final roster: Black Canary, Poison Ivy, Black Manta, Red Hood, Blue Beetle etc. At least two other massive baddies from within the DC Universe have been confirmed as new characters for the game: Atrocitus and Gorilla Grodd.

Over on the official PlayStation blog, NetherRealm Studios Community Specialist Tyler Lansdown provided some info on this sequel’s brand near Gear System:

The Gear System uses RPG-like mechanics to reward you with loot drops every time you play the game. With each loot drop, you will earn character-specific gear to outfit and power up your roster – changing not only the look of each character, but your fight strategy and your personal approach to every match. As you gear up your characters, you’re building a roster of DC Super Heroes and Super-Villains that reflects your choices, and your preferences, which can be vastly different than your opponents. A few play sessions in, you can expect your Aquaman to look and play different than anyone else’s Aquaman you may come across.

The two images you’ll see below hint at even more characters making their fighting game debut in Injustice 2:

Some of those shirt icons means we’re getting Dr. Fate and a few other DC icons.

Now we’re extra excited. We can all expect to engage in some epic superhuman battles once again when Injustice 2 hits the Xbox One and PS4 in 2017.
