‘ReCore’: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

The Xbox One is getting ready to deliver a Fall season full of great games.

Forza Horizon is delivering another quality sequel, plus a new generation will be introduced in the next chapter of Gears of War. Those two upcoming titles are well known franchises that are sure to get tons of warranted attention. But there’s actually one brand new IP being delivered to Xbox One/PC gamers – ReCore. After being revealed during E3 2015, an air of mystery has been surrounding this game. Now that more information and exciting gameplay trailers have been released, ReCore’s basic concepts and plot are finally starting to come into focus.

We’re here of course to make sure you have a clear understanding of what this platformer/3rd-person shooter has in store. Here’s everything you need to know about ReCore.

1. Two Notable Development Companies and a Few Gaming Personalities are Tied to This New Project

ReCore is a very special project due in part to the developmental teams and brains behind its creation. The two development studios responsible for putting this game together are Comcept and Armature Studio. Comcept previously worked on titles such as Soul Sacrifice, Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z and Mighty No. 9. The very same man who founded that company, Keiji Inafune, has signed on to work as ReCore’s main producer. As for Armature Studio, they’ve been largely responsible for working on Metroid Prime, HD collections and portable ports of popular games (they’re now looking towards finishing the PS Vita and Wii U versions of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night).

Mark Pacini is lending his talents to the game as its main director. Pacini has done past work on a myriad of excellent games, such as the Metroid Prime series, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale and Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate. Joseph Staten, who has offered his writing expertise to the Halo series and Destiny in the past, has signed on to craft the plot elements within ReCore. And finally, the game’s musical score is in the very capable hands of Chad Seiter.

2. The Plot Revolves Around a Mysterious Woman Named Joule

Players will enter a vast desert and explore hidden caverns as the resourceful Joule Adams. ReCore’s main official website gives us a brief summary of where exactly she is, who she befriends and what her ultimate mission entails:

You are Joule Adams, a young survivor of a terrible cataclysm who journeys from Earth to the desert world, “Far Eden” to build mankind’s new home. But when Joule wakes after centuries in cryo-sleep, nothing has gone according to plan… With her “Corebot” companion, Mack, Joule begins an adventure to unlock secrets from the past, defeat powerful foes, and bring new life and hope to Far Eden. The Far Eden colony was meant to be a paradise, where humans and Corebots could build a future together. Now, however, most of the Corebots have gone rogue, and the planet is plagued by violent sandstorms. In some areas these storms come and go, altering the terrain and revealing new areas to explore and new challenges to overcome.

3. Joule Relies on the Assistance of Various Robotic Companions

Joule won’t be traveling alone during her adventure through the remains of Far Eden. She’ll employ the useful aid of Corebots who vary in size, appearance and abilities. Three of the known robot companion variations revealed thus far includes “Mack,” “Seth (SP-DR)” and “Duncan (AP-3).” Mack is Joule’s most dedicated dog-like companion, Seth is a heavy lifter and Duncan can smash rocks and other heavy obstacles.

These allies will accompany you on your journey and help you during combat and puzzle sequences. As Joule locates improvement blueprints and the associated materials needed to fulfill their requirements, she’ll be able to improve her Corebots’ stats. Check out the two videos posted below to witness Seth and Duncan’s character introductions:

4. Joule Wields Color Coded Weaponry, Plus She Utilizes Her Trusty Grappling Hook to Get Around

What makes this 3rd-person shooter stand apart from other recent games in the genre is its implementation of color coded weaponry. As Joule acquires new ranged weapons, she’ll come across different types of ammunition that are tied to a specific color. When she encounters enemies, she’ll need to shoot them down with the right color that matches up with them. Her Corebots can also aid her in battle by also matching the same color as the foe that’s currently in her way. It’s possible to dish out more damage through this method.

Joule’s platforming skills come into play thanks to her always reliable grappling hook. She’ll need this tool to hook herself to higher and farther distances as she transports power cores and navigates high platforming puzzles. Joule will not only make her way across a vast desert; she’ll also come upon several caverns that houses all sorts of secrets, resources and collectibles to discover.
