Will ‘Super Mario Run’ Be Released on Android Devices?

Nintendo is bringing Mario to iOS devices this December, with Super Mario Run being the iconic character’s first mobile game. But is Nintendo also bringing the app to Android devices? Or will it be exclusive to iOS?

When the game launches on December 15th, Super Mario Run will be an iOS exclusive. Android users will not be able to download the game on that day.

However, the app will not be exclusive to iOS devices forever. After Nintendo announced the game at an Apple event in September, they confirmed to Kotaku that Super Mario Run is also coming to Android eventually. However, they provided no specific timeline.

“We do intend to release the game on Android devices at some point in the future,” Nintendo said.

That certainly doesn’t sound like the Android version will be coming out shortly after the iOS version, though, and so Mario fans with Android devices should probably not expect to get their hands on Super Mario Run until sometime in 2017.

Super Mario Run is a traditional Mario platformer game, but the key difference is that in this case, Mario is constantly running. The game is played with one hand, so all you have to do is tap the screen to get Mario to jump over objects and stomp on enemies. The game will feature six worlds, plus three game modes including a multiplayer mode where players compete to perform the best moves.

The app can be downloaded for free, but the full version will cost $9.99.
