5 Easy Ways to Get Rupees in ‘Breath of the Wild’

The Legend of Zelda, Breath of the Wild

In previous The Legend of Zelda games you’d just have to cut some tall grass or kill enemies if you were in need of rupees. In Breath of the Wild, those days are pretty much gone and you have to rely on selling items if you want to get rupees fast.

Breath of the Wild gives you a lot of items you can sell but as you’ll come to find out, some are worth much more than others.

Here are five easy ways to get rupees in Breath of the Wild.

1. Sell Valuable Gems

The Legend of Zelda, Breath of the Wild

In your exploration of Hyrule, you’ll come across gems like diamonds, topaz, sapphires and rubies. These gems are very valuable to merchants and will fetch a couple hundred rupees each.

Some caves you come across will be riddled with ores that you can collect. You’ll find yourself with a couple thousand of rupees if you collect enough of these gems but it should be noted this can be time consuming and they can be used for crafting later in the game.

2. Cook and Sell Food

The Legend of Zelda, Breath of the Wild

Hunting for food is something that’s new to the series and it’s something that you’ll have to do often. The food is used to recover your lost hearts but the food can also be used for making money.

If you collect 5 pieces of raw meat, you can combine that and make a meat skewer. The skewers will sell for 120 rupees a pop and raw meat is relatively easy to find in the wild. Just make sure you carry enough arrows to hunt because nothing is worse than running down a fox with your sword.

3. Kill Guardians

The Legend of Zelda, Breath of the Wild

This isn’t recommended unless you know what you’re doing. Guardians can often times result in a one hit kill unless you’re able to parry the attack or immobilize the guardian.

If you have a horse, you can actually ride up to the guardian and take hacks at its legs to cut them off. Once you do this, the guardian will flip on its side and you’ll be able to go to town on it.

Guardians will drops plenty of ancient items and if you have no immediate plans to turn the items into armor, they can fetch a pretty penny from merchants.

4. Use Your Amiibos

The Legend of Zelda, Breath of the Wild, Amiibos

If you’re like me, you have an army of amiibos on standby. Amiibos will drop all sorts of items for you including weapons, clothes, shields, meat, fish and plenty more things.

You can use your amiibos once per day and if you cook up all the food it drops, you can make some good money right away. Obviously this works better if you have a ton of amiibos. I’ve found that the stuff I get from amiibos is pretty much overkill since I’m never really hurting for food during the game.

5. Gamble in Lurelin Village

The Legend of Zelda, Breath of the Wild

If you go to the (way) south of Hateno Village, there’s a beach town called Lurelin Village where you can gamble for rupees. Make sure to pick up the nearby shrine to create a waypoint to the village.

There’s a shop you can go to where you gamble 100 rupees for a chance to look into three chests. One of the chest has a prize of 300 rupees so if you’re lucky, you can get rupees this way.

If you want to take the element of chance out of it, you can always save and reload your game every time you lose so you don’t go broke. If you’re okay with this sort of behavior then it’s probably to quickest way to make rupees.
