As you have heard, Malthael is the latest addition to the ever growing Heroes of the Storm roster. If you haven’t heard the news: Malthael is coming to Heroes of the Storm. Malthael is best known as the main baddie in Diablo 3’s expansion pack, Reaper of Souls. With his jump to Heroes, he is bringing his repertoire of moves from Diablo 3 and we’re going to take a quick look at how they translate into the game.
Let’s first take a look at his damage, utility, survivability and complexity.

His primary abilities include Soul Rip, Wraith Strike and Death Shroud. His Heroic Abilities are Tormented Souls and Last Rites. His Hero Trait is Reaper’s Mark. You can see more about his skills on his Hero page.
Soul Rip
Extract the souls of nearby enemies afflicted by Reaper’s Mark, dealing 100 damage and healing Malthael for 44 per target hit. Heroic targets heal Malthael for an additional 3% of the Hero’s maximum Health. This skill can only be used when Reaper’s Mark is active on at least one enemy.
Wraith Strike
Instantly teleport through an enemy afflicted by Reaper’s Mark, dealing 59 damage and refreshing Reaper’s Mark. Of course, this skill is also only usable while Reaper’s Mark is active. It can be used to close the gap between Malthael and an enemy or it could used as form of escape. Its multi-purpose usage will make it an interesting skill to be seen when Malthael hits the Nexus.
Death Shroud
After 0.25 seconds, unleash a wave of dark mist that applies Reaper’s Mark to enemies it hits. The skill moves very slowly so you’ll have to use it wisely.
Tormented Souls
Gain 20 Armor and unleash a torrent of souls, continually applying Reaper’s Mark to nearby enemies for 4 seconds.
Last Rites
Apply a death sentence to an enemy Hero that, after 2 seconds, deals damage equal to 50% of their missing Health. Repeatable Quest: Enemies killed while under the effect of Last Rites permanently reduce its cooldown by 5 seconds, to a minimum of 15 seconds. Every opponent defeated by Last Rites will lower the skills cooldown until it reaches the minimum amount of 15 seconds.
Reaper’s Mark
Basic Attacks afflict non-Structure targets with Reaper’s Mark for 4 seconds. Marked enemies are revealed and take damage equal to 2.5% of their maximum Health every 1 second.
Malthael isn’t the quickest of heroes and as a result, he will be vulnerable to attacks from high-mobility heroes such as Tracer. It can hard to put the Reaper’s Mark on these heroes which is essential to Malthael’s success. If his Reaper’s Mark is shut down, he is pretty much defenseless.He will excel at taking down front-line warriors as he can deal a high amount of damage very quickly.

In other Heroes of the Storm news, the Anniversary Event is currently live and will be running until June 12. Players can collect a loot chest every day if they play at least one game per day. Completing the Event quest will reward you with an Anniversary Portrait, Spray and Banner.
