‘Killer Instinct’ Will Be On Steam Later This Year

Killer Instinct (2013)

Killer Instinct, the third title in the Killer Instinct series (that’s not confusing), will be making its way to Steam later this year. The game is actually a reboot of the series and was originally released as a launch title for the Xbox One back in 2013. The game receives new content in the form of seasons and also received a port to Windows 10 along with the third season in 2016.

Now, we’ve learned the popular fighter is going to have another release on Steam, later this year.

Not many details are known about how the game will work once it’s on Steam, such as whether players will be able to play with the Windows Store and Xbox One players. One major complaint with games on the Windows Store is the playerbases being really small. This is problem that plagues Halo Wars 1 and 2, Killer Instinct and many more. Halo WarsKiller Instinct and Quantum Break have already received ports to Steam or are receiving them in the future, while Gears of War 4 opened up cross-play with the Xbox One.

We also aren’t sure if the game will feature both a free version and a definitive edition. The free edition rotates a free new fighter every week while a definitive version will include all the fighters in the game up to this point.

All of this might be a sign of Microsoft loosening the reigns on their Windows 10 platform and allowing more players to get in on the action with their games. There has been a stigma around Microsoft and their online stores ever since the failed Games With Windows endeavor.

When Halo Wars: Definitive Edition released for Steam, it dropped the Windows 10 requirements and allowed us to game with Windows 7. We don’t yet know if Killer Instinct will do the same thing but it will be a good move for fans if they go in that direction.

We don’t have much more information to share about Killer Instinct on Steam but keep it right here for the latest news regarding the game.
