While we don’t know who exactly won this year’s E3, we do know who was the most talked about.
Microsoft’s E3 2017 press conference created the most buzz on social media this year. It accounted for 44 percent of all conference-related mentions. The runner-up was Nintendo, coming in at 15 percent of social media mentions. Here’s the full list for those of you interested:
- Microsoft (44%)
- Nintendo (15%)
- Sony (11%)
- EA (10%)
- Ubisoft (10%)
- Bethesda (8%)
- PC Gaming Show (2%)
The information comes from Brandwatch, which collected its data with a 10 percent sample of all the English-language mentions. The data came over the course of three days, from June 10 to June 13, the time when the majority of the conferences were going on.
The reveal of Microsoft’s new console, the Xbox One X, along with showing off BioWare’s new IP, Anthem, and Assassin’s Creed Origins in detail on the hardware probably helped along with the mentions. We don’t have any information on whether these mentions were good or bad, because we do know there are a select number of people who felt the Xbox One X being priced at $500 was a tad too high. All publicity is good publicity, right?
Assassin’s Creed Origins went on to become the most mentioned game on social media as well, coming in with close to 75,000 mentions. The big surprise came with Metroid Prime 4. All we saw from that title is a title slide that confirms the title existed and was being worked on. For that to become the second most mentioned game of E3 shows Nintendo fans have been dying for a proper Metroid experience on their consoles. We also have Skyrim, a 2011 title, still chugging along with updated titles such as the Switch version and now the VR version.
The top 10 most mentioned games from E3 were:
- Assassin’s Creed Origins
- Metroid Prime 4
- Mario + Rabbids
- Super Mario Odyssey
- Beyond Good and Evil 2
- Dragon Ball Fighter Z
- Skyrim (Including Skyrim VR)
- Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus
