It might be hard to imagine a world where a game is released and it isn’t available with a Season Pass. Kingdom Hearts 2 released back in 2005, before that became the industry standard and from the sounds of things, Kingdom Hearts 3 might be going down that path.

Final Fantasy XV had a Season Pass so it’s definitely not far-fetched to think Kingdom Hearts 3 will have one, especially since it’ll be Square Enix’s next flagship RPG. Kingdom Hearts 3 game director Tetsuya Nomura spoke on the possibility of DLC coming in a group interview during Disney’s D23 expo, where the new Toy Story world was revealed.

According to GameSpot, Nomura can’t confirm if there will be DLC, but said that the team has prepared for it and that they can add worlds after the game releases.

I don’t think we’ll be keeping any worlds secret until the game is released. Nowadays games can add content after the fact through DLC, so there’s no need to hide any worlds. Nothing is set in stone, and I’m afraid we can’t go into details, but I have told the team — Just be prepared to be able to accommodate for [DLC]. It’s not confirming or denying either way, but just so that the development team will be prepared, I have informed them to star making the preparations.

Kingdom Hearts 3 also marks the first full-HD game the team has created for the current console generation, meaning the graphics will look top-notch. Just take a look at how good everything looks in the Toy Story trailer. However, this has caused the team to focus more on individual worlds rather than pack the game full of new ones. According to the same interview, the game might have less worlds to accommodate the improved graphics of the other ones.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is going to be our first full HD game in our current console generation,” he continued. “It does involve a lot of bandwidth and resources in order to create in full HD, so our directive was to have as many elements [as possible] of gameplay included in one single world, rather than having multiple different little worlds with few elements. We wanted to pack in as many gameplay elements and fun into a single world.

Square Enix and Pixar worked together for the creation of the Toy Story world, so the door has been left opened for more Pixar worlds to join the game. It would be great to see a Frozen world in the game at some point, since the popularity around the movie seems limitless. It’s too early to tell for certain what worlds will be added, if any.
