Call of Duty WWII: How to Play Online With Friends

The newest Call of Duty game has officially released and it’s shaping up to be one of the biggest shooters of the entire year. Dubbed “WWII,” this game takes players back to the 1940s and lets them step into the shoes of various soldiers. While this title boasts a rather impressive campaign, there is little doubt the big draw will be the multiplayer component. Offering both a competitive and co-op mode, users will be able to easily sinks dozens upon dozens of hours into this game after the campaign credits role.

However, no one will want to go it alone as the multiplayer can be quite brutal – especially for new Call of Duty: WWII players. If you want to play with friends you will need to first go online in either the Nazi Zombies mode or the competitive multiplayer.  If the servers are down there is nothing you can do outside of simply waiting for them to activate again. There is an option to play locally for both sections and you can create or host matches for your friends. Here’s how to play with your buddies in both the co-op and competitive modes:

Nazi Zombies

If you want to take the plunge into the terrifying world of Nazi Zombies then you’ll want to bring some friends. When you load up this mode you have a choice between Public and Custom Matches, with the former matching you with random players and the later being a room you control. If you want to play with your friends in a Public Match simply hit Triangle (PS4 / Y (Xbox One) to bring up the Social tab.

From here you can scroll through the names of people of your friend’s list, recent users you’ve met, and ones in your party. Highlight the name of the person you want to invite and then press X (PS4) / A (Xbox One). You can then scroll down and invite your friend into a lobby so you can go play. As for Custom Matches, simply start one up and then invite your friends in the Lobby section of the match.

Competitive

A more traditional multiplayer format, this will undoubtedly be the most popular aspect of Call of Duty: WWII. Much like Nazi Zombies all you have to do is open up the Social tab by hitting Triangle (PS4 / Y (Xbox One) and find the person you want to invite. You’ll spend a lot of your time at the HQ, which acts as a social hub for the online playerbase. Users can invite their friends by pressing Start and then opening up the Social tab. Once your group is assembled pick either Public or Ranked Matches to start playing online with your friends.

Keep in mind you need to actually finish the prologues for each of these sections before you can invite friends. The Nazi Zombies prologue will teach users the fundamentals of the slaying the undead, while the competitive section requires you to play at least one match first. While Call of Duty: WWII is fun, it’s definitely better when you can fight alongside your buddies.
