What’s New In Games This Week

With E3 just around the corner, plus it being Summer, the number of notable releases this week is again on the slim side. Though with the latest from Bethesda Softworks, and the ultimate version of BlazBlue, it’s kinda hard to complain…

The latest from Bethesda Softworks, whose been on a roll as of late, sees the first flat out action title from them in quite a while. Not much to speak of plot-wise; you’re just two warriors in a dark fantasy realm, looking for some mysterious artifact that no doubt will decide the fate of the world. But who cares about plot, because you know the action will be hot and heavy with an emphasis on cooperative multiplayer. And visually speaking… hey, it’s Bethesda… so you know it’s going to be drop-dead gorgeous. Oh, and there’s a dungeon creation tool called the Crucible that’s sure to extend the life well past the point after that much sought after object has at last been captured, or tossed into molten lava. Xbox 360, PC, PS3

This is a little complicated, so stick with me: BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II is not a true sequel to Continuum Shift I, which itself was actually a sequel to the first BlazBlue title, Calamity Trigger. Instead it was an update that brought all the console exclusive characters from the first console release of Continuum Shift to the arcades, hence why the total package was enough to justify DLC updates for the console iterations. But since the portables never got Continuum Shift period, we get the new release. Got all that? Anyhow, most important thing is another does of classic Japanese 2D fighting goodness, with the silkiest animation you’ll find anywhere. It’s however, have a rather hard to grasp at first fighting system that, if you stick with it, will be more than rewarding. Though if you want to just mash the buttons, that’s okay, too. PSP, 3DS
