Jones vs. Jackson Announced For UFC 135 in Denver

Jon Jones

Huge light heavyweight title booked for fall

The much-speculated light heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Rampage Jackson is now set for UFC 135 in September.

The UFC revealed on Wednesday that both fighters have verbally agreed to the bout.

Jones hasn’t competed since winning the UFC belt in dominant fashion from Mauricio Rua in August. Originally scheduled to face Rashad Evans in August, Jones pulled out of the bout to undergo surgery on his injured hand, only to reveal several weeks later that he wasn’t going to need surgery. By that point, however, the UFC had already booked Evans against Phil Davis and did not want to change the fight, so it was awarded to Jackson.

Jackson defeated Matt Hamill in the main event of UFC 130 for his second win in a row. Jackson had previously defeated Lyoto Machida in late 2010.

UFC 135 takes place September 24 at the Pepsi Center in Denver. Other announced bouts include Matt Hughes vs. Diego Sanchez, Kid Yamamoto vs. Damacio Page and Ben Rothwell vs. Mark Hunt.
