Teixeira meets Maldonado in Rio
Just one day after Quinton “Rampage” Jackson was forced out of UFC 153 due to injury, Glover Teixeira has a replacement opponent.
The light heavyweight contender meets Fabio Maldonado at the event, which is set for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on October 13 on Pay-Per-View.
UFC officials announced the bout, while USA Today Sports reported it.
Teixeira debuted in the UFC at UFC 146, earning a quick stoppage victory over Kyle Kingsbury. The victory immediately moved him up to contender status and earned him the originally planned match up with Jackson.
Meanwhile, Maldonado is on a two-fight losing streak and in desperate need of a win. He last competed in May, dropping a unanimous decision to Igor Pokrajac.
UFC 153 features a main event between middleweight champion Anderson Silva and light heavyweight Stephan Bonnar. The bout will take place at the 205 lb. mark.
