“UFC Primetime: St. Pierre vs. Hardy” Draws Record Viewership

Wednesday night’s debut episode of “UFC Primetime: St. Pierre vs. Hardy” was the highest-rated UFC “Countdown” show in company history. Spike TV announced today that the 30 minute episode drew 1 million viewers during its initial showing. That bested the debut episode for “St. Pierre vs. Penn” in 2009 by over 120,000 viewers.

The show, previewing the main event welterweight championship bout for UFC 111, takes a real-time look at both competitors as they prepare for the biggest fight of their careers. Hardy is known as an engaging and brilliant personality but has little name value with the casual fan, which made him the perfect choice for the Primetime series. The debut episode ended with Hardy walking into Matt Serra’s gym for his first day of training, a complex piece of drama when you consider that Serra handed St. Pierre his last loss at UFC 69.
