Matt Lindland Returns To Strikeforce At May 21 Event

Matt Lindland will return to the Strikeforce cage in the main event of the May 21 “Strikeforce: Challengers” show in Portland. No opponent has been named.

Strikeforce made the announcement today.

Lindland lost to Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza by submission in his last Strikeforce bout on December 19. The former Olympic silver medalist holds victories over many all-time greats, including former UFC champions Carlos Newton and Pat Miletich.

Undefeated prospect Tyron Woodley will face off with Nathan Coy on the preliminary card. A former two-time All American wrestler from the University of Missouri, Woodley has used his stellar wrestling skills to make a smooth transition to MMA. He defeated Rudy Bears in via arm triangle in the first round at his last bout in November.

Kerry Vera, the wife of UFC light heavyweight Brandon Vera, will also return to the cage against Julianna Pena. Vera made her Strikeforce debut in November, battering Kim Couture to score a TKO victory in the first round.

The event takes place at the Rose Garden in Portland and will be televised on Showtime.
