Drysdale Earns Submission Win in MMA Debut

Robert Drysdale’s first professional mixed martial arts bout ended up like so many of his jiu-jitsu matches — with Drysdale submitting his opponent quickly and effortlessly.

Drysdale submitted opponent Bas Huveneers with an arm triangle at 1:12 of the first round during last night’s Armageddon Fighting Championship 3 event in Victoria, British Columbia.

Drysdale, the 2007 Abu Dhabi open division winner, is angling to arrive on the big stage with the UFC or Strikeforce in 2011. As Heavy.com first reported in May, Drysdale signed a four-fight deal with AFC. He’ll fight one more time this year and finish out his contract in the first half of 2011. After that, he hopes to sign with the UFC or Strikeforce.

Drysdale’s entrance into pro MMA comes a little later than he’d hoped. The jiu-jitsu phenom was scheduled to try out for The Ultimate Fighter 10 last summer, but the tryout was canceled when his doctor discovered an unspecified injury during a routine MRI.
