Strikeforce Women’s Tournament Format Changed

When the four members of the Strikeforce 135-pound tournament set for “Strikeforce Challengers 10” hit the cage in the opening round, they will not be granted the three three-minute rounds.

According to MMARising.com, the tournament format has changed for the opening round of the competition. The two tournament openers will now consist of two three-minute rounds with no option for a third round. The judges will have to pick a winner if the fight goes the distance.

The tournament is slated for August 13 in Phoenix, Arizona at the Dodge Theatre. The tournament features Hitomi Akano, Carina Damm, Maiju Kujala, and Miesha Tate. The match ups will be decided at the weigh-ins and will be random, and the entire tournament will be conducted Friday night.

The remainder of the card includes Ryan Couture’s debut with Strikeforce against Lucas Stark and Joe Riggs vs. Louis Taylor in the main event of the evening.
