Davis to face Hamill in April

A light heavyweight tilt between Phil Davis and Matt Hamill has been targeted for UFC 129 this upcoming April.

MMAjunkie.com reported the match up earlier today after learning of the news from sources close to the event.

Davis, who burst onto the UFC scene against Brian Stann at UFC 109 last February, dominating the former WEC champion en route to a unanimous decision victory. The win was his fifth as a professional, and he has since added three more, including his most victory, a submission stoppage against Tim Boetsch at UFC 123 last November.

While Davis has garnered a lot of attention as of late, Hamill, a former collegiate wrestler, has done very well for himself in recent contests, including his decision victories over Keith Jardine and Tito Ortiz in 2010. However, prior to the pair of wins, Hamill was dominated by Jon Jones, who put on a brutal display of ground and pound. A disqualification issued to Jones due to illegal elbows is the only reason the fight ended in a victory for Hamill.

The 205 lb. clash is likely for UFC 129 this April, when the UFC makes its first trip to Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The card is set to feature a welterweight title bout between champion Georges St. Pierre and top contender Jake Shields, while a light heavyweight match up between Randy Couture and Lyoto Machida will in all likelihood serve as the evening’s main event.
