Three bouts added to Strikeforce’s February 12 card

Strikeforce has added three heavyweight reserve bouts to the televised portion of the February 12 card, set for East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The promotion announced today that sluggers Shane Del Rosario and Lavar Johnson will meet in a heavyweight clash, while Ray Sefo and Valentijn Overeem, the brother of heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem, are also set to meet. Meanwhile, the third bout features Chad Griggs, who defeated Bobby Lashley back in 2010, against Gian Villante, who is 2-1 as a professional mixed martial artist.

The three bouts are set to serve as reserve bouts for the upcoming heavyweight tournament Strikeforce is putting on, which features eight of the promotion’s top heavyweights, including Fedor Emelianenko, Antonio Silva, Josh Barnett, and champion Alistair Overeem.

The promotion’s February 12 event, which is set for the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey, features a main event between the aforementioned Emelianenko and Silva in their first round fight, along with another tournament first round bout between Andrei Arlovski and Sergei Kharitonov.

The other two first round bouts feature Josh Barnett against former top contender Brett Rogers and heavyweight title-holder Alistair Overeem against Fabricio Werdum, who shocked Emelianenko last June with a submission victory in the opening round.
