Yamamoto faces Cariaso at UFC 130

A bantamweight tilt between Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto and Chris Cariaso is official for UFC 130.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced news of the match up via its official website.

Following lengthy stints fighting in Shooto and K-1, along with three bouts under the DREAM banner, Yamamoto made the move to the UFC just recently, losing in his debut against Demetrious Johnson at UFC 126. The Japanese star had lost just once prior to 2009 and since then has lost three of his last four contests.

While Yamamoto failed to earn the victory in his UFC debut, Cariaso had better luck. At “UFC Fight Night: Fight for the Troops 2,” the bantamweight walked away with a unanimous decision nod against Will Campuzano. The WEC and Strikeforce veteran currently stands at 11-2 as a professional, though he has yet to face a fighter with the name value his upcoming opponent carries.

The 135 lb. contest will serve as one of several preliminary bouts at UFC 130, which is set for the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 28. The card features the final bout of the trilogy between lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard, along with a co-main event between former light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Matt Hamill.
