UFC 134 Fight Card: Falcao vs. Lawlor In The Works

Tom Lawlor

Falcao meets Lawlor at UFC 134

A middleweight bout between Tom Lawlor and Maiquel Falcao is in the works for UFC 134 this August.

MMAjunkie.com reported the match up earlier today after learning that both competitors have verbally agreed to the tilt.

Falcao, who debuted in the UFC at UFC 123 against Gerald Harris, earned a victory in his first bout with the promotion, though it hardly won him over a plethora of fans. With moments of sheer speed and power, Falcao appeared capable of ending the fight whenever he wanted to, but after winning the first two rounds, he was content to cruise to a unanimous decision, much to the dismay of president Dana White and the fans watching.

Still, Falcao showed several moments of promise, making him widely regarded as one of the division’s most fierce strikers. He was originally expected to meet Alessio Sakara in his next bout, but an injury forced the cancellation of the match up.

Meanwhile, Lawlor looks to build off what was possibly the biggest win of his career. He managed to defeat former top contender Patrick Cote via unanimous decision at UFC 121 in what was in all likelihood a must-win bout for him. Prior to that, he was defeated by Joe Doerksen and Aaron Simpson consecutively.

UFC 134 is set to mark the promotion’s return to Brazil and is expected for Rio de Janeiro’s HSBC Arena on August 27. The event will likely feature a middleweight bout between Anderson Silva and top contender Yushin Okami.
