Assuncao vs. Eduardo official for UFC 134

A featherweight bout between Johnny Eduardo and Raphael Assuncao is set for UFC 134 in Rio De Janeiro this August.

UFC officials announced the bout last night.

A five-fight veteran of the WEC, Assuncao was once considered one of the featherweight division’s best contenders, but after losing back-to-back contests to Urijah Faber and Diego Nunes, the Brazilian took a bit of a tumble down the ranks. He managed to recover in his final WEC bout, earning a victory over L.C. Davis, but fell short to Erik Koch in his UFC debut at UFC 128.

While Assuncao’s roots with Zuffa go quite deep, Eduardo is set to make his debut with the company. He is currently riding an 11 fight winning streak, having not lost in over four years. He is 25-8 as a professional mixed martial artist.

UFC 134 is set for Rio De Janeiro, Brazil on August 27 and features a main event between middleweight champion Anderson Silva and Yushin Okami. Assuncao vs. Eduardo is expected to be the first bout of the event.
