Shields Remains On Fight Night 25 Card After Father’s Death

Welterweight elects to stay in fight

UFC welterweight Jake Shields has decided to remain on the Sept. 17 UFC Fight Night 25 card after the passing of his father, Jack Shields.

The elder Shields, who served as Jake’s manager and mentor, passed away on Monday in his home. The cause of death has not been released.

Shields faces Jake Ellenberger in a battle of top welterweight contenders in the main event of UFC Fight Night 25. It will be his first trip back to the Octagon since losing to Georges St-Pierre in the main event of UFC 129 in April.

UFC Fight Night 25 takes place at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.
