Mark Hominick, “Korean Zombie” Scheduled for UFC 140

Mark Hominick

Long expected pairing has now been made official

The UFC announced Saturday that Canadian Mark Hominick will meet Chan Sung Jung at UFC 140 in Toronto on December 10.

It will be the second fight of the year in his country’s largest city for the Hominick after facing Jose Aldo in the co-main event of UFC 129 back in April. This bout will also mark his first appearance in the Octagon since the sudden and tragic passing of his long-time coach and friend Shawn Tompkins in August.

A native of London, Ontario, Hominick delivered a gutsy performance in the final round of his bout with Aldo, punishing the champion on the ground to send the partisan crowd of 55,000-plus people into a frenzy. Though he came out on the losing side the decision, the 29-year-old took home a $129,000 bonus check for Fight of the Night.

The incredibly popular “Korean Zombie” has been sideline since earning the first UFC submission victory by twister against Leonard Garcia at Fight Night 24 in March. It was a much-needed victory for Jung who had lost two straight heading into the bout, including a second round knockout loss to another Tompkins trainee, George Roop.

While there has been no official announcement as of yet, this featherweight pairing should find its way onto the main card of the event. The organization’s second trip to Toronto this year will take place at the Air Canada Centre, home of the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs and NBA’s Toronto Raptors; UFC 129 was held in the cavernous Rogers Centre, home of the Toronto Blue Jays.

UFC 140 is expected to be headlined by the heavyweight rematch between Frank Mir and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, with Tito Ortiz facing Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in the co-main event.
