Marquardt released from BAMMA contract

Former UFC middleweight top contender Nate Marquardt is not beginning his career outside of the Ultimate Fighting Championship with BAMMA.

That news is according to MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani.

BAMMA agreed to release Marquardt from his contract when the promotion was forced to push its Feb. 11 event to March 24. He would have faced fellow UFC veteran Yoshiyuki Yoshida in that card’s main event.

Marquardt’s career outside the UFC began after he was released by the promotion following his failed physical prior to UFC on Versus 4 last June. He was scheduled to face Rick Story in the main event of that card, but his failed physical forced him out of the bout and, ultimately, out of the UFC.

Marquardt’s manager has not disclosed any information regarding his client’s next step in mixed martial arts.
