Warren, Curran meet in Bellator’s season debut

Featherweight champion Joe Warren and top contender Pat Curran meet at Bellator 60 to kick off the promotion’s sixth season, and the Season 6 featherweight tournament quarterfinals will also take place on the card.

The NWI Times was the first to announce the full fight card, which will take place March 9 at The Venue at Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Ind.

Curran earned the title shot after winning the promotion’s eight-man featherweight tournament last year at Bellator 48 with a win over Marlon Sandro.

“Everything is falling into place right now,” Curran said in a release from the promotion. “My hometown is really close to where I’m fighting, and I know I’ll have the support of my family and friends. This is something that is meant be.

“Even though he’s coming off a loss, he’s a very dangerous opponent. He’s a very strong wrestler who’s going to try to close the distance and work the clinch against me. I’m looking forward to a great fight.”

While Warren is coming off a loss in the opening round of the promotion’s bantamweight tournament last season, he is still 6-1 as a featherweight, with his lone loss coming against Bibiano Fernandes in 2009.

Also announced for the card, featherweight Ronnie Mann looks to pick up a win over WEC veteran Wagnney Fabiano in the opening round of the season’s featherweight tournament.

The Times also reported that UFC veteran Sean McCorkle will fight on the undercard in a heavyweight bout against Richard White, and UFC and TUF 12 vet Shamar Bailey will fight Josh Shockley in a lightweight fight, also on the prelims.
