Kamal Shalorus Meets Rafael Dos Anjos at UFC on Fuel 3 in Virginia

Rafael Dos Anjos (UFC)

Lightweights scheduled for May 15 bout

A pair of lightweights have been booked to meet on the UFC’s return to Virginia in May.

Kamal Shalorus and Rafael Dos Anjos will fight on the card when the UFC returns to Fairfax, Va., for UFC on Fuel TV 3. UFC officials recently announced the fight, which is expected to be a part of the preliminary card for the May 15 event at the Patriot Center.

Shalorus (7-2-2, 0-2 UFC) will be looking for his first UFC victory after dropping the first two fights of his career once he joined the promotion after a stint in the WEC. Shalorus debuted with the UFC last March at UFC 128, but suffered a TKO loss to current lightweight contender Jim Miller. In January at the UFC’s first event on FX in Nashville, Tenn., Shalorus was submitted in the third round by Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Dos Anjos (15-6, 4-4 UFC) also will be looking to put his name back in the win column. He dropped a split decision to Gleison Tibau at UFC 139 in November, his second loss in three fights after a modest three-fight winning streak that saw him outpoint Rob Emerson and Kyle Bradley, then take a Submission of the Night bonus for his win over Terry Etim at UFC 112. But his streak was snapped – and nearly his jaw – by Clay Guida at UFC 117. He rebounded for an upset win over George Sotiropoulos at UFC 132 before falling to Tibau.

UFC on Fuel 3 will take place at the Patriot Center in Fairfax. It will be the UFC’s second visit to that venue, which is located just outside Washington, D.C. UFC Fight Night 20 also took place there in January 2010. The card is expected to be headlined by a featherweight contenders bout between Dustin Poirier and “The Korean Zombie,” Chan Sung Jung.
