Fighters agree to meet on July 11 card in San Jose

A pair of fighters going in opposite directions in the bantamweight division will drop to flyweight for a fight this summer.

Chris Cariaso and Josh Ferguson have agreed to meet at UFC on Fuel TV 4 on July 11. UFC officials recently announced the fight booking for the card, which is expected to take place at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. – though the venue has not officially been announced by the UFC.

UFC on Fuel TV 4 is expected to be headlined by a middleweight contenders bout between Mark Munoz and Chris Weidman. James Te Huna and Brandon Vera also are expected to fight on the card.

Cariaso (13-3, 3-1 UFC) had been one of the bantamweight division’s fighters on the rise, winning three of his first four UFC fights. His lone setback came against Michael McDonald at UFC 130 and was a close split decision that one judge scored 30-27 for Cariaso. In February, he picked up arguably his most impressive win to date, outpointing Takeya Mizugaki at UFC 144 in Japan.

Ferguson (8-4, 0-1 UFC) was a cast member of Season 14 of “The Ultimate Fighter,” on which he lost to Johnny Bedford in his first official fight once inside the house. At the TUF 14 Finale in December, Ferguson was submitted by Roland Delorme 22 seconds into the third round. The Kentucky native now has lost three of his last four fights, including a first-round submission loss to Mike Easton before the two signed with the UFC. He’ll be looking to turn things around as a flyweight.
