White responds to Shamrock’s harsh comments

Former UFC champion Frank Shamrock addressed his Hall of Fame snub from Dana White on Spike TV’s “MMA Uncensored Live” last week, and the UFC boss is firing back.

Shamrock stated that he did not care about his exclusion from the UFC Hall, explaining that his wife cared more than he did. But the comments following suggest at least a hint of bitterness, as the UFC, WEC, and Strikeforce veteran called White “a total douchebag and bully.”

On Sirius XM Satellite Radio, White came back with some comments of his own.

“I don’t know what’s worse, Frank Shamrock talking smack like he should be in the Hall of Fame or Spike TV having him on,” White said. “We have the biggest fight of the ear coming up and they have Frank Shamrock on there, the most irrelevant dude on the planet.”

White went on to explain that the UFC Hall of Fame honors the fighters that helped bolster the “new UFC,” meaning the UFC that is being regulated and has reached, at least to some extent, the mainstream.

“Frank Shamrock isn’t one of those guys,” White stated simply.

The UFC Hall of Fame is unlike other sports’, such as baseball or basketball. The inductees are selected by White and other UFC executives, as opposed to writers who would vote deserving athletes in.

Shamrock and White’s relationship was summed up by the former nicely with the simple statement of “Dana and I don’t get along.” Their tumultuous relationship seems the main factor in Shamrock’s exclusion from the Hall of Fame, as White holds the key to Shamrock’s passage into the UFC’s most elite club.

However, Tito Ortiz, the former longtime nemesis of the UFC president, is set to be inducted into the Hall this weekend just hours before UFC 148, proving that, if reparations are made, White could possibly have a change of heart.
