Jones’ sentencing postponed again

UFC light heavyweight Jon Jones‘ sentencing has been postponed again.

The fighter stood in front of a Binghamton City Court judge today, requesting more time to complete a drug and alcohol abuse program he was ordered to complete. He has been given until July 31 to finish the program.

The Binghamton Press & Sun Bulletin reported the news today.

Jones was arrested in the early morning of May 26 after an automobile accident. The champion crashed his luxury car into a utility pole and was arrested for driving while intoxicated. He was also given two moving violations after the incident.

Those two violations are expected to be dismissed, as Jones’ plea deal is expected to yield a light punishment. He is expected to face a fine of $1,500 and a one year conditional discharge. He will also be required to undergo a substance dependency evaluation, install ignition interlock devices in his vehicles and pay for the damages.

Jones is expected to resume his UFC career at UFC 151 this September against MMA legend Dan Henderson. He last fought at UFC 145, earning a unanimous decision victory against Rashad Evans.
