UFC 148 drug tests come back clean

All competitors from UFC 148 were tested for banned substances, and all tests came back clean.

NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer confirmed the news today.

The drug test results came just under one week after UFC 148, the most highly-anticipated event of the year for the Ultimate Fighting Championship. The card featured Anderson Silva‘s technical knockout victory over rival Chael Sonnen.

Sonnen and Silva originally met in the main event of UFC 117, and Silva earned a submission victory in the event with a last round miracle submission. However, Sonnen had shown weaknesses in the champion after dominating him for four rounds.

Following the event, Sonnen tested positive for elevated testosterone levels. He has since gone on to explain to the Nevada State Athletic Commission that he requires Testosterone Replacement Therapy, which resulted in the heightened levels.

Also on UFC 148, Forrest Griffin defeated Tito Ortiz in what was the latter’s final fight inside the Octagon. According to Larry Pepe of ProMMANow.com, Griffin applied for TRT leading up to his fight against Ortiz.
