Shane Roller Retires Following UFC On FX 5 Loss To Jacob Volkmann

Shane Roller

Roller tweets about UFC future

UFC lightweight Shane Roller is walking away from the sport of mixed martial arts.

The former WEC contender and six-fight UFC veteran went to Twitter to deliver the news.

“Looks like I’m hanging up the gloves for good,” Roller wrote. “It was fun, but time to move on.”

Roller found success as a WEC fighter for a good portion of his career, during which he fought the likes of now-UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson and former (and final) WEC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis.

Roller lost to both of those accomplished fighters.

During his WEC stint he did earn several big wins, however, including victories over Danny Castillo and Jamie Varner. He finished his WEC career with a 6-2 record in the promotion.

His stint in the UFC did not go nearly as well.

Roller debuted against Thiago Tavares in March of 2011, earning a vicious knockout victory. But he would go on to lose three consecutive fights.

He did break that losing streak with a UFC 148 win over John Alessio, but his loss to Jacob Volkmann at “UFC on FX 5” this past Friday seemed to be the tipping point.
