Stephan Bonnar‘s career has apparently run its course.

The veteran of “The Ultimate Fighter 1″ has officially retired from mixed martial arts.

Dana White revealed the news on a fan chat last evening, and Bonnar went on to confirm the news via Facebook.

Bonnar last competed at UFC 153 against Anderson Silva, losing to the Brazilian superstar via technical knockout. Prior to that bout, he was already contemplating retirement.

But when the UFC needed a replacement main event earlier in October, Bonnar did what he’s always done, stepping up for the promotion.

While Bonnar’s future may no longer include taping up and jumping in the cage, he will likely remain involved with the sport. He has gained quite a bit of experience in commentary and has been featured on WEC broadcasts and “UFC Tonight.”

His success in the sport can be tracked back to his epic battle against Forrest Griffin at “The Ultimate Fighter 1 Finale.” Though he was defeated, Bonnar earned his way into the promotion, and Dana White often reminded the media that he would never release the light heavyweight.
