Strikeforce: Dallas Taking Shape for June 18

Strikeforce: Dallas tickets on sale for Friday

We’re going to have to wait a little more than two months before we see another major Strikeforce event, but the way things are shaping up, our patience will be rewarded.

After another exciting event this past weekend, Strikeforce won’t return to action again until Saturday, June 18 when they make their return to Texas. Last summer, the organization brought a pair of title fights to Houston, and this year, the second leg of the World Heavyweight Grand Prix and the return of Gina Carano are going to take place in Dallas.

Taking place at the American Airlines Center, the event will be headlined by Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem taking on Fabricio Werdum, while Brett Rogers will meet Josh Barnett in the co-main event. These bouts were originally schedule to take place some time this month, but undisclosed reasons forced a delay.

The quartet of heavyweight tournament hopefuls will be joined by the wildly popular Carano. Fresh off filming director Steven Soderbergh’s action pic Haywire, the former American Gladiators star will be stepping into the cage for the first time since losing to Cris Cyborg in August 2009. The 28-year-old Las Vegas native recently switched training camps, leaving Xtreme Couture to join the team at Jackson/Winkeljohn’s in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Two more heavyweight tilts have also been confirmed. Unbeaten Shane del Rosario and former Olympian Daniel Cormier, the top two prospects in the organization, will square off, as will Valentijn Overeem and Chad “The Grave Digger” Griggs.
