Rogers facing assault charges

Former Strikeforce heavyweight top contender Brett Rogers is facing third-degree assault charges after a physical altercation with his wife.

The news was first reported by myfoxtwincities.com earlier today.

Rogers allegedly strangled his wife to unconsciousness while striking her in the head, causing her to lose a tooth, as well as leaving a golf ball sized bump. Along with the assault charges, he was also charged with endangerment of a child after his daughter attempted to intervene and protect her mother from further damage.

This recent event in Rogers’ life is just another unfortunate one in what has been a difficult past year for the heavyweight. He is currently on a three-fight losing streak in Strikeforce, most recently getting knocked out of the Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix in the opening round against former UFC champion Josh Barnett. Prior to that, he was defeated by champ Alistair Overeem and Fedor Emelianenko.
