Lesnar Return Targeted For UFC 116

LAS VEGAS – After suffering from an illness that has kept him on the shelf since October, UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar is tentatively scheduled to return to the Octagon at UFC 116 on July 3.

MMA Junkie issued the report this morning, and Heavy.com has confirmed with UFC sources that Lesnar will likely make his return at the Las Vegas card. Barring a major injury suspension for either fighter, Lesnar will face the winner of the Frank Mir/Shane Carwin bout scheduled for UFC 111 in March. If the winner of that bout is suspended due to injury and cannot make the fight, the title shot will go to the winner of the Cain Velasquez/Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira bout that takes place in Australia later this month.

The UFC has hosted events during three of the past four Four of July events. UFC president Dana White told Heavy.com on Thursday that he intends to make it an annual tradition.
