Patrick Cote vs. Tom Lawlor Set For UFC 121

A middleweight bout between the ever-entertaining Tom Lawlor and top striker Patrick Cote is set for UFC 121 this October in California.

MMAjunkie.com reported news of the match up earlier today after speaking with sources close to the event.

Cote returned the the cage at UFC 113 after a lengthy layoff due to injury following his technical knockout loss to Anderson Silva at UFC 90. The Canadian striker failed to make the return a glorious one, losing to Alan Belcher via submission on the evening’s main card.

Lawlor is also coming off two consecutive disappointing losses of his own. After dominant opening rounds against both Aaron Simpson and Joe Doerksen, Lawlor fell into cardio problems, failing to compete nearly as well in the latter rounds of the fights. Still, he has earned the reputation as one of the more exciting brawlers in the sport.

UFC 121 is expected to take place at Anaheim, California’s Honda Center and will likely feature a main event between UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and top contender Cain Velasquez. Also, Jake Shields will make his debut on the October 23 card opposite Martin Kampmann.
