UFC Fight Night 22 Finalized With Escudero vs. Oliveira

“UFC Fight Night 22” is finally set, as lightweight up-and-comers Efrain Escudero and Charles Oliveira has been made official. The lightweight contest replaces the lightweight rematch between Mac Danzig and Matt Wiman, which was scratched due to injuries sustained by both fighters.

The promotion announced the bout earlier today.

Escudero was on a roll following his unanimous decision victory over Phillipe Nover at “The Ultimate Fighter 8 Finale”, a victory which earned him the title of “The Ultimate Fighter”. He followed the victory with a dominant knockout over Cole Miller, but his streak came to an end with a submission loss to Evan Dunham, the first of his career. Escudero returned at UFC 114 with a unanimous decision victory over Dan Lauzon in an effort to rebuild his trek to a title shot.

Meanwhile, Oliveira debuted with the promotion at “UFC on Versus 2” with a dominant submission victory over Darren Elkins on the evening’s preliminary card. The victory pushed the Brazilian’s record to an impressive 13-0 and marked his twelfth career stoppage victory.

The 155-pound match up between rising prospects joins a main card headlined by a middleweight contest between Nate Marquardt and Rousimar Palhares. The remainder of the main card, which will be televised on Spike TV on September 15, includes another lightweight tilt between Ross Pearson and Cole Miller, along with a third 155-pound bout between Jim Miller and Gleison Tibau.
