Hendricks vs. Thiago Scratched From UFC on Versus 3

Johny Hendricks

Thiago forced to withdraw from March bout

The welterweight contest between Johny Hendricks and Paulo Thiago is no longer on tap for “UFC on Versus 3.”

Last night, Team Takedown, the company that manages Hendricks, delivered the news on Twitter, saying that they are “extremely disappointed” and that the bout “was going to be a great fight.”

Hendricks, who last fought at “The Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale,” dropping a unanimous decision to Rick Story, now has a bit of an uncertain future. MMAjunkie.com is reporting that, according to sources close to the event, he may receive a new opponent if such an opportunity arises, or he will be moved to a later event.

Meanwhile, Thiago will also have to wait to get back on track. The Brazilian submission ace, once rolling up the ranks of the welterweight division, has lost three of his last five. He is currently on a two-fight skid, having lost to Diego Sanchez and Martin Kampmann by unanimous decision at UFC 121 and UFC 115, respectively.

“UFC on Versus 3” is set for the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky on March 3 and features a main event between the aforementioned Kampmann and Sanchez. Also on the card, which will be televised live on Versus, middleweights C.B. Dollaway and Mark Munoz meet in the co-main event.
