Phil Baroni Released By The UFC

UFC 125
UFC middleweight Phil Baroni predicted his release.

Last Saturday, following his technical knockout loss to Brad Tavares at UFC 125 this past weekend, the fighter told Ariel Helwani that a release from the promotion was inevitable. Today, Versus.com first reported that the entertaining Baroni would no longer be fighting in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Since returning to the promotion after an absence of four years, Baroni struggled against prospects such as Amir Sadollah, who he lost to at UFC 106, and Brad Tavares, who defeated him at UFC 125 this past Saturday. “The New York Bad Ass” just could not seem to put it together during his second stint with the promotion, but he promises that this year will turn around soon.

“Thank you for the support twitter friends,” Baroni posted on Twitter earlier today. “Much appreciated. I’m going to turn 2011 around! Back on the horse!”

Baroni is now in search of a job with a new promotion after losing six of his last nine fights, including his two-fight skid with the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He has not hinted at who he may sign with as of yet, but a second stint with Strikeforce seems a plausible option.
