UFC 127 Preliminary Card Results

The Ultimate Fighting Championship has worked its way back to Sydney, Australia’s Acer Arena for tonight’s “UFC 127: Penn vs. Fitch” event, and HeavyMMA.com will be bringing you all the live results from the preliminary card.

Featured on the undercard, lightweight veteran Spencer Fisher and former “Ultimate Fighter” winner Ross Pearson will face off, while light heavyweights Alexander Gustafsson and James Te-Huna will do the same. Also on the card, undefeated middleweight Nick Ring will do battle against Riki Fukuda.

Tune into HeavyMMA.com at approximately 7 p.m. ET for coverage of the seven preliminary fights of UFC 127.

Curt Warburton d. Maciej Jewtuszko via unanimous decision
Mark Hunt d. Chris Tuschscherer via KO, round 2

Tiequan Zhang vs. Jason Reinhardt: Reinhardt came out fired up, but Zhang quickly locked in a super-tight guillotine choke. Reinhardt tried to fight it, but was forced to submit. Reinhardt passed out immediately after the tap. Zhang has a seriously nasty guillotine. Tiequan Zhang d. Jason Reinhardt via submission (0:48 of round 1)

Anthony Perosh vs. Tom Blackledge: Perosh hooked in a rear naked choke to force the submission and pick up his first UFC win in front of the hometown crowd.  Perosh looked much better at light heavyweight than he did at heavyweight against Mirko Cro Cop. Anthony Perosh d. Tom Blackledge via submission (rear naked choke, round 1)

Riki Fukuda vs. Nick Ring: Ring was unable to stop Fukuda’s takedowns. He also looked incredibly stiff standing up, which may be a byproduct of having his knee completely reconstructed in the last 14 months. Neither guy really did much to impress, but Fukuda’s takedowns were lightning-quick and spelled the difference in the fight. Fukuda’s wrestling has dramatically improved since the last time we saw him at Deep 49. Unfortunately for Fukuda, the judges didn’t see it the same way and awarded Ring a unanimous 29-28 decision. That’s ridiculous and one of the worst judging decisions I’ve seen in awhile, and that’s saying something. Even the normally reserved Mike Goldberg expressed shock. Nick Ring d. Riki Fukuda via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Alexander Gustafsson vs. James Te Huna: Te Huna looked dominant early, but Gustafsson’s grappling prowess paid off as he secured a rear-naked choke to submit the local favorite Te Huna. Alexander Gustafsson d. James Te Huna via submission (round 1, 4:25)

Spencer Fisher vs. Ross Pearson: Both of these fighters wanted the Fight of the Night bonus, and they made it apparent during the entire duration of this bout. Pearson was stiff early, but loosened up as the fight went on and took control in rounds 2 and 3. Fisher continued to land big shots, but Pearson just landed more. Pearson also used a much-improved wrestling game to take Fisher to the mat several times in the third round, which likely secured him the win. Ross Pearson d. Spencer Fisher via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
