UFC lightweights square off at UFC 134 in Brazil
UFC 134 is formerly known as “UFC Rio.” The promotion announced both the fight and the switch in name today. The event takes place Aug. 27 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro. The main event features a UFC middleweight title fight between champ Anderson Silva and Yushin Okami.
Barboza is 2-0 in his UFC career, earning a TKO victory (via leg kick, no less) over Mike Lullo at UFC 123 and a unanimous-decision victory over Anthony Njokuani at UFC 128. Pearson, the winner of season 9 of The Ultimate Fighter, has won five of his past six fights, with the only loss coming to Cole Miller at UFC Fight Night 22).
The Barboza/Pearson event is expected to take part on the preliminary card portion of the evening.
Barboza was rumored to faced Takanori Gomi at the event, but Barboza’s management said that no such talks had ever taken place.
