Carvalho vs. Alcantara Set For UFC 134

Antonio Carvalho

Carvalho, Alcantara meet in Rio this August

A featherweight contest between Antonio Carvalho and Yuri Alcantara is official for UFC 134 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Officials announced the contest earlier on Thursday.

The fight will take place on the card marking the promotion’s anticipated return to Brazil, a country called home by the likes of middleweight champion Anderson Silva, heavyweight top contender Junior dos Santos, and featherweight champion Jose Aldo, among many others.

Carvalho, a Shooto veteran, last competed earlier this month, winning via unanimous decision. The victory extended his current winning streak to three straight, which he looks to build upon in his UFC debut.

Like his upcoming opponent, Alcantara is also set to make his UFC debut after putting up impressive performances outside of the largest and most successful promotion in the sport. With 11 straight victories, the Brazilian has become a blue chip prospect in the UFC’s 145 lb. division.

The card is slated for August 27 and features a middleweight title fight between the aforementioned Silva and top contender Yushin Okami.
