Gomi, Diaz face off at UFC 135

An explosive lightweight bout has been added to UFC 135 with the addition of Nate Diaz vs. Takanori Gomi.

The UFC announced the bout on Monday night.

UFC 135 takes place September 24 at the Pepsi Center in Denver. It will be headlined by a light heavyweight championship bout between Jon Jones and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. The co-main event will see veterans Matt Hughes and Diego Sanchez square off in a welterweight contest.

Diaz will return to the lightweight division after a less-than-successful stint at welterweight. He’ll try to stop a two-fight losing streak against Gomi, who lost his last outing at UFC 125 to Clay Guida.

Diaz will have motive for revenge, of sorts. His brother Nick defeated Gomi at PRIDE 33: Second Coming in February 2007 by gogoplata. The decision was overturned and ruled a no-contest after Diaz tested positive for marijuana.
