A welterweight tilt between Matt Hughes and Diego Sanchez is likely for UFC 135 in Denver, Colorado.
MMAjunkie.com first reported the match up in April, but the date of the fight was unknown. Today the site reported the news of the bout’s date and venue.
A former lightweight contender, Sanchez made the jump back to the 170 lb. division after being defeated badly by B.J. Penn back at UFC 107. Since his return he is 2-1, with his latest victory coming over Martin Kampmann at the last “UFC on Versus” event.
Meanwhile, Hughes returns to action after plenty of time off, considering he last fought at UFC 123. At the November event, he was knocked out cold by the aforementioned Penn in the opening moments of the bout.
UFC 135 is likely for Denver’s Pepsi Center on September 24. The card is expected to feature a light heavyweight championship tilt between Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Jon Jones.
