Cerrone vs. Oliveira Promoted To Versus 5 Main Card

Cerrone vs. Oliveira promoted to “UFC on Versus 5” main card

UFC lightweights Donald Cerrone and Charles Oliveira meet at “UFC on Versus 5,” but they will no longer be fighting on the evening’s preliminary card.

Officials from the UFC announced recently that the two 155 lb. fighters will now find themselves competing on the main card, which is set for the Versus network.

The change came about due to the fallout of John Makdessi vs. Paul Taylor as a result of a injuries to the two fighters. Originally, Makdessi was replaced by Cerrone, but when Taylor went down, he was replaced by Oliveira. The match up will serve as one of four main card bouts on a card headlined by Chris Lytle and Dan Hardy. The event takes place in Milwaukee on August 14.

Oliveira last fought at “UFC on Versus 4” against Nik Lentz, winning via submission. But the controversial victory, which was marred by an illegal knee, caused the contest to be overturned to a no contest. Prior to that, he was defeated by top lightweight Jim Miller.

Meanwhile, Cerrone has caught fire since losing to Benson Henderson for a second time in the WEC. He is currently riding a four-fight winning streak, including two UFC wins. He last fought at UFC 131, dominating Vagner Rocha in Vancouver.
