Bulgarian remains unbeaten with first round TKO victory.
Just when Luiz Cane was getting comfortable, Stanislav Nedkov caught him with an overhand right that wobbled him and was the beginning of the end.
Making his UFC debut after more than a year on the sidelines, Nedkov looked to be over-matched early on, throwing mostly overhand rights opposite the combinations being offered by Cane. The Brazilian stalked his opponent, forcing the action, looking extremely comfortable in the cage. Perhaps he got too comfortable.
After landing several less forceful rights throughout the opening round, Nedkov hit the sweet spot, staggering Cane with a looping punch, sending him back-pedaling into the fence. “Stucky” followed, heavy shots being offered the entire way. Though Cane tried to defend, Nedkov connected with another bomb, crumpling Cane against the fence and forcing referee Mario Yamasaki to step in to wave off the fight.
Nedkov has been waiting to make his UFC debut for quite some time. Originally signed in June 2010, the 29-year-old Bulgarian was injured prior to his opening bout, then watched Steve Cantwell hurt his knee days before their bout at UFC 120. Ten months later, he finally stepped into the Octagon, and collected the eleventh consecutive win of his professional career.
